Plot location: Shallow depression just S of east-west pipeline ROW, SW of golf course near southern border of Algonkian Regional Park.
Field Estimate from Topo: (UTME): 293202 (UTMN): 4325629.
This habitat is an isolated, shallow depression on a very broad (ca. 0.7 miles wide) floodplain terrace of the Potomac River. Surrounding parts of the terrace are relatively well drained and the sampled habitat is probably best considered an "upland depression swamp" natural community. Seasonal flooding here is probably short and shallow (water marks on trees @ 20 cm above lowest point); the habitat was completely dry on the date of sampling. Vegetation is an open forest of Quercus bicolor, Quercus phellos, and Quercus alba with Carpinus-dominated understory and sparse herbs.
